Abstract

This article proposes an initial analysis of the contradictions between intellectuals and political action, based on the study of Liberalism in the work of José Ortega y Gasset and María Zambrano. Specifically, we observe an evident presence of Ortega in Zambrano’s first work, Horizonte del liberalismo (1930), which appeals to a reformation of Liberalism as her master previously did throughout his conference “Vieja y nueva política”, back in 1914. Indeed, although from different perspectives and intentions, the liberal tradition becomes the focus of both texts, as well as the reflection of the social function of intellectuals.
