Abstract

The theme of the relationship between literature and politics raises different and interesting questions, including the one about “fiction”. José Ortega y Gasset and René Girard, among others, have focused on this theme. From their reflections, due to the evidence of some parallels, an hypothesis of interpretation can be advanced according to which the Girardian theory of mimetic desire would be rooted in the interpretative potential of prospectivism, as understood by the Spanish philosopher. In close and binding connection with an absolutely new concept of realism, which would represent its active, generating principle. The two authors ultimately agree on the fact that fiction has a character that is anything but extrinsic or merely decorative, since it aims to create a space for the revelation of a meaning usually hidden and deeper than reality itself.
