Abstract

José Ortega y Gasset and Konstantinos Tsatsos are modern philosophers whose use of the idea of Europe is essential for the structure of their philosophy. In this study we examine the idea of europeization in their thought. Close analysis reveal the structuring function of the idea of European uniflcation in their thought, and relates it to the concept of totality in W. Dilthey. The superation of the European State-nations is a conditio sine qua non for Ortega and Tastsos. In conclusion, Ortega's eurocentrism is different from Tsatsos', but in both's thought, modern Europe is a synonime of balance and plurality in diversity versus the society of the masses.
