Abstract

This second installment of the correspondence between José Ortega y Gasset and Ramiro de Maeztu covers just over a year, from August 3, 1909, to September 1910. It is, however, an important stage in the lives of both friends. Ortega married Rosa Spottorno and won the chair of metaphysics at the University of Madrid. We are witnessing the political evolution of Ortega, from extreme involvement in the Restoration crisis, following the Tragic Week in Barcelona, to political disappointment and the start of a new philosophical journey. Ramiro de Maeztu is getting closer to Ortega’s proposals for Europeanization, moving away from those of his generation.
