Abstract

In this essay, I have thought about the evolution of the idea of progress. Moreover, I have showed the meaning that the concept of progress receives in the current new technologies society which we are living in. The Spanish thinker´s theory dealing with technique and progress are fully present and it is not out-of-date at all. Ortega warns us about the consequences of all those advances in the field of science and technology.

Author Biography

Alejandro de Haro Honrubia, Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Humanities from the University of Castilla-La Mancha and is currently working on his doctoral dissertation on Ortega y Gasset at that university. Among his publications, the following are particularly noteworthy: “The Genesis and Foundations of Ortega’s Raciovitalism: A New Form of Rationality Rooted in the Phenomenon of Life” (2003) and “Intellectuals and Politics. The Controversy Surrounding the Relationship Between Ortega y Gasset and the Franco Regime” (2003).
