Abstract

Our investigations is a attempt to approach the cultural context and the causes, which motivate Ortega´s famous aesthetics and musicals essays “Musicalia” (1921), “Apatía artística”(1921) and La deshumanización del arte (1925). The article concerns therefore the historical “circumstances” of Ortega´s writings, a fundamental item in the study of his philosophical thought.

Author Biography

José M. García Laborda, Universidad de Salamanca

He holds a degree in Composition and Pedagogy from the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts (Germany) and a Ph.D. in Musicology from Goethe University in Frankfurt. He has served as a professor of musicology at the Murcia Conservatory of Music and as an associate professor at the University of Murcia. Furthermore, he is currently a tenured professor at the University of Salamanca, where he founded and has presided over the International Spring Festival of Contemporary Music since 1991. He is the author of several books and numerous articles on 20th-century music and musical analysis. As a composer, he has a catalog of more than seventy compositions across all genres, which have been premiered both in Spain and abroad.
