Abstract

This essay wants to revise the Spanish aesthetic about José Ortega y Gasset’s (1883-1955) texts on musical works. In this case, we try to develop his thoughts and understand his speech in a social, cultural and aesthetic study from musical texts like “Apatía artística”, La deshumanización del arte and “Musicalia”.

Author Biography

Virginia Sánchez Rodríguez, Universidad de Salamanca

Bachelor's degree in Art History, master's degree in Hispanic Music, master's degree in Teacher Training in Secondary Education, Vocational Training, and Language Teaching, and professional qualification in Music, specializing in piano. She is a researcher at Medialab Usal, and her main lines of research revolve around the study of the union of music and audiovisual media, as well as the aesthetics and philosophy of music. Among her latest published articles is "Beyond the ‘Film.’" The reuse of film music in Spanish advertising” (2012), “The relevance of the musical heritage of the province of Salamanca through the audiovisual media. Gerardo Gombau and film music” (2013) and “The history of Spain through the noir genre: a study of 'El extraño viaje' (1964) and its soundtrack" (2013).
