Abstract

This article analyses the Spanish philosopher Ortega y Gasset's thoughts on human knowledge as described in the essays entitled El Espectador, by comparing them with the positions he adopted in his later works. It points out that the refinement given to the theme during the so-called second navigation does not represent a break with what is essentially expressed in the El Espectador essays.

Author Biography

Jose Maurício de Carvalho, Universidad Federal de São João del-Rei (Brasil)

A philosopher, educator, and psychologist, he holds a PhD in philosophy and is a professor in the Department of Philosophy at the Federal University of São João del-Rei (Brazil). His research focuses on contemporary philosophy and ethics. He has published 16 books, a dozen chapters in various books, and more than 150 specialized articles in scientific journals. Some of his works include O homem e a filosofia, pequenas meditações sobre a existência e a cultura (2007), Filosofia e Psicologia: o pensamento fenomenológico existencial de Karl Jaspers (2006), Introdução à filosofia da razão vital de Ortega y Gasset (2002), and Contribuição contemporânea à história da filosofia brasileira (2001).
