Abstract

This text is based on the closing lecture of the International Congress “The Dehumanization of Art and Ideas about the Novel. 100 Years Later,” which took place at the Ortega-Marañón Foundation in Madrid on June 13, 2025.

Author Biography

Estrella de Diego, Universidad Complutense de Madrid

Essayist, Chair of art history at the Complutense University of Madrid, and full member of the Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid. Honorary Doctorate from the Public University of Tres de Febrero in Buenos Aires. She is a member of advisory and scientific committees at various institutions, including Bienal Sur, the Norman Foster Foundation, and the Real Colegio Complutense at Harvard University. She is a patron of the Fundació Gala Salvador Dalí, the ARCO Foundation, and the Prado Museum, where she is a member of the Permanent Commission. Furthermore, she has received the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts (2011) for her work as a writer and researcher. She is a regular contributor to the newspaper El País, and her latest books include El proyecto Picasso (2023) and El Prado inadvertido (2022).
