Abstract

Even as being originally monolingual, or precisely because it is an essential and unsurpassable way, we are inexorably led to address the task of translation. This is a task unavoidable and impossible to perform perfectly. This paper addressed the problems of translation work, highlighting the contributions made by José Ortega y Gasset and Jacques Derrida, aimed at highlighting its relevance and its limits and its efforts to clarify its deepest sense.

Author Biography

Domingo Fernández Agis, Universidad de La Laguna

He holds a degree in philosophy from the University of Granada, a PhD in philosophy from the University of La Laguna, and a diploma in advanced studies in political science from the UNED. He is a tenured professor in the Department of Philosophy and History of Science, Education, and Language, in the Faculty of Humanities, Philosophy Section, at the University of La Laguna, teaching the subjects of “Ecological Ethics and Bioethics,” “Citizenship and Human Rights,” “Current Issues in Ethics and Political Philosophy,” and “Introduction to Philosophical Issues.”

He is the author of several books, including Memorial del desorden. Para una lectura política de la virtualidad del desorden (1995), Después de Foucault. Ethics and Politics at the Confines of Modernity (1996), Science, Technology, and Society: A Philosophical Approach (2001), The Development of José Ortega y Gasset's Political Thought (2007), and On Love (2015). He has published articles in various journals, including El Basilisco, El Urogallo, Claves de Razón Práctica, Revista de Occidente, Isegoría, Problemata, Dilemata, Metapolítica, Isegoría, Revista de Estudios Orteguianos, Philológica Canariensia, Logos, A Parte Rei, Revista Complutense de Educación, Laguna, Endoxa, Eikasía, Areté, Ideas y Valores, Pensamiento, Alpha, Revista Portuguesa de Filosofía, Estudios Filosóficos, etc.
