Abstract

Ortega y Gasset’s work embodies a constant tension between the definition of his personal intellectual vocation and its practical realization. This article presents the main aspects of this duality, in particular by taking into account the pedagogical features of his philosophy. After presenting, from a theoretical point of view, the scope of Ortega’s cultural reform, the article analyses the experience of his last great intellectual project: the Institute of Humanities. Thus, the article proves that the Institute can be conceived as a paradigmatic example that permits to understand how, throughout his whole life, Ortega tried, and partly succeeded, to translate his utopian reformist projects into reality.
