The aim of this paper is to review critically some basic concepts of El tema de nuestro tiempo. The first section is devoted to the concept of the “double imperative” and the notions of “life”. The second section analyses the notion of “vital sensitivity” and the role played by values in the transition from “the vital” and from a general idea of “life” to a specifically human notion of life, which is, beyond all ambiguities, the really important one in this work. This work is elaborated in dialogue with the recent article by José Lasaga “Cien años de El tema de nuestro tiempo: un horizonte muy abierto” (2023).
