Abstract

The aim of this paper is twofold: to point out and compile Ortega's references to and reminiscences of the works of Jules Michelet, in particular Le peuple, and to highlight his impact on the concept of the people in its early implications for the politics of his country.

Professor Emeritus of Hispanic Literature. Member of the university research center at the Faculty of Arts of the I. C. P. Author of the thesis El intelectual y la política en los artículos de prensa de J. Ortega y Gasset (The Intellectual and Politics in the Press Articles of J. Ortega y Gasset) (Université Paris X, 1993 Nanterre) and of numerous articles and studies on the Spanish philosopher with regard to his European issues, among which “Neutralisme et esprit européen d'après José Ortega y Gasset” (Neutralism and the European Spirit According to José Ortega y Gasset), in Ineke Bockting, Béatrice Fonck and Pauline Piettre (eds.), Neutralités, neutralismes en question, 2017, pp. 221-245, and “Azorín y Ortega: ¿dos intelectuales en caras opuestas?” in Azorín clásico y moderno, CANELOBRE magazine, no. 67, summer 2017, pp. 220-230. She is also co-author of 1898: la crise religieuse en Espagne (2003), 1914: neutralités, neutralismes en question (2017), and Shakespeare Cervantes: regards croisés Garnier (2019).
